Statement:
"Out in the garden, there has to be something very special that I am seeing before I go into the house to get my camera. Sunlight is essential. I may need to wait hours until the sun reaches the perfect position on the flower. I move around the blossom, photographing it with the sun behind me, which gives it an opaque effect. Then I move behind the flower to explore the translucent qualities of the petals and how that influences the colour of the blossoms."
History:
Born into a family of artists, Don attained his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the renowned Art Institute of Chicago. He and his family moved to British Columbia in 1968 where he taught painting and drawing classes.
